Fun things to do on or by the water in Breda

From the water, everything looks different. A view from the water offers beautiful and unique cityscapes. Breda gives you space, even on or by the water! We list all the activities you can undertake for you.

    Sup on the canals

Looking for a way to cool down on hot days? Then try supping! Supping stands for stand up paddling. You stand on a supboard and move yourself forward over the canals with a paddle. How fun is that! Sup along the Valkenberg Park and the old Koepelgevangenis. Explore Breda in a different way and at the same time, you're also doing something healthy. A real workout on the water! You can make it as relaxing or as intense as you want. Fun guaranteed.

Active on the water: rent a canoe

Fancy a bit of action on the water? You can also go canoeing in Breda from the Spanjaardsgat. The roads with cars are hardly visible. What remains are the beautiful buildings and nature along the water. The route takes you past the Royal Military Academy, the old water tower, the Chassé Park and the Seelig barracks. Enjoy Breda from a different perspective from the water! An active and relaxing day at the same time!

    Boat trip in Breda

The canals of Breda are great to explore by boat. There is so much more to see from the water. Take a look at our historic city from a different perspective! Join De Nieuwe Mark Boat Tours for a canal cruise and discover how green Breda actually is. Prefer to sail your own boat? You can also rent a sloop (with or without skipper) to discover the most beautiful spots.

Tip: Did you know that you can sail right into the centre of Breda with your own boat and stay overnight at the visitor marina

    Staying at the Galderse Meren

Looking for a way to cool down on a hot day? Then the Galderse Meren are the place to be. The area is located next to the Mastbos and the Galderse Heide and is named after the nearby village of Galder. It was created by sand excavation for the construction of the A16 motorway. Here you can enjoy swimming, diving and even surfing if you want.

    Belcrum Beach

Belcrum Beach is the city beach of Breda, located in the Havenkwartier area in the Belcrum district. The city beach is a place to relax with a drink and a bite to eat, enjoying the sun, chatting with friends, and listening to music from a band or DJ. Belcrum Beach is also a unique location for a birthday party or a corporate event. Please note: although Belcrum Beach is a city beach, swimming is not allowed here!

    Fishing in Breda

Breda with all its water is the perfect place for fishing. Fortunately, this is also possible in many places! At VISplanner you can see exactly where you can and cannot fish in Breda. For example, cast your line in the city: also known as streetfishing or urban fishing!

What you definitely need is a fishing permit. For most waters in Breda, you need a permit from De Baroniesche Hengelaars. On the website of De Baroniesche Hengelaars you can find the fishing waters of the association and the fishing rules. You can also see which permit you need here.

    WaterBike

Cycling on water?! That's possible right here in Breda! The WaterBike is the new way to explore the city from the water. Together with your friends, family or colleagues, you can enjoy the city canals in a unique way. An active and special outing where you cycle past many sights! Choose between a single or tandem water bike and start pedalling! This way, you can experience a holiday feeling close to home.

    Swimming in Breda

Prefer going to the swimming pool instead? In Breda, there are several great swimming pools you can visit, even when the weather is nice. How about Swimming Pool Sonsbeeck (with an indoor and outdoor pool) or Swimming Pool Wolfslaar or Swimming Pool de Wisselaar

    The Asterdplas

Sunbathing, swimming, surfing, sailing: you can do it all at the Asterdplas. Relax in the grass or on the sand, whichever you prefer. Also good to know: many different species of birds can be found in the wet transition area near the lake. Children can play to their heart's content here!

    De Kuil in Prinsenbeek

You can also escape to Prinsenbeek to enjoy a day in beautiful weather. Take a look at swimming lake De Kuil. The pool has a sunbathing area and sand beach. Here you can relax perfectly on a sunny day, even with children.

    't Zand in Alphen

The nature and recreation area 't Zand is located northwest of the village of Alphen and borders the nature reserves Chaamse Bossen and Alphense Bergen. The name 't Zand was not randomly chosen: for centuries, there was an extensive sand drift here, as in many places in Brabant. Due to sand extraction, a water lake has been created where you can swim, float, or sunbathe. Children can entertain themselves all day in or around the water. Ultimate enjoyment!
