When soul label Daptone Records, known for Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones, launched their Wick Records rock imprint, they wasted no time in approaching The Mystery Lights. A rock 'n roll band on a soul label, that's not surprising; the organ sounds and warm bass provide a sexy-soul sound, but the analogue recordings and authentic songwriting also suit the label. They excel with a garage rock sound full of psychedelia in '60s style. The sound gets under the skin and Mike Brandon's soulful voice manages to impress.
