The ultimate bucket list in Breda

Are you planning to pay a visit to Breda? Then keep this list at hand, because these are the things you'll want to see and do in Breda. How many can you tick off?

    Climbing De Grote Kerk

Breda's biggest pride, as well as the pride of the people of Breda, is the Grote Kerk. No matter from which direction you enter Breda, the white lady always stands above the other buildings. The beating heart of Breda. Nine Nassaus and the first Prince of Oranje found their final resting place there. Climb up for a piece of tangible history and a fantastic view.
If climbing the tower seems a bit too much, then at least let yourself be surprised by the beautiful interior!

    Blind Walls Gallery

When you go for a walk in Breda, you can't miss it. Countless murals add colour to the city. There are now more than 100 Blind Walls to be found in Breda. Each mural from Blind Walls Gallery is based on a story from Breda. Take a walk or cycle on your own along the street art or book a tour! And don't forget to bring your camera, as you can capture some real gems here!

    Kasteel Bouvigne

When you stand in front of Kasteel Bouvigne, it feels like you're in France. The estate of Kasteel Bouvigne dates back to the fifteenth century and consists of a fairytale castle surrounded by three special gardens. The castle itself is only occasionally open to visitors, but you can enjoy a wonderful walk through the gardens on weekdays.

    Valkenberg Park

Chances are you'll walk through it if you come by train: Valkenberg Park. It's always beautiful here, no matter the season. Originally reserved for residents of Kasteel van Breda, it is now a great meeting place for locals and visitors alike. Have you also seen the artwork 'the lighthouse'?

    Het Mastbos

Do you love nature? Then Breda is the right place for you. The Mastbos also has a connection with the Nassaus - the forest was created by Hendrik III van Nassau and is one of the oldest pine forests in the Netherlands.

Tip: Take a walk along the Vlonderpad, a real Insta hotspot!

    Beguinage

A unique, idyllic place in the vibrant city centre of Breda: the Begijnhof. Here you can go back in time. Until the 1990s, beguines lived here, pious, single women who carried out 'good works' in education and healthcare in the city. Beguinages are rare in the Netherlands: you can only find them in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Delft, and Breda.

    Haveneiland

A real hidden gem is Haveneiland. The creative and urban hotspot of Breda. Take a look at the skatepark Pier 15 or visit the creative hub STEK or Electron, where various entrepreneurs are based.

    Foodhall

All kinds of food concepts under one roof, which means there's something for everyone. The FoodHall is located in the building of the old cinema, and traces of that are still visible. So, it's extra special. Come to the FoodHall for a quick bite, a cosy drink or a coffee with something sweet. You can find everything here!

    Stedelijk Museum Breda

Stedelijk Museum Breda is the youngest city museum in the Netherlands. The museum is an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to experience and discover the history and art of Breda and its surroundings.
Two permanent exhibitions 'The Nassaus of Breda - Castle, city and land' (open from 10 June 2023) and 'Ambition & Desire - Breda in the 19th century' offer a fresh and current look at the history of the city and region. Thanks to the interactive Family Traces, these presentations are really worthwhile for young and old alike.

In addition, the museum shows changing exhibitions in which contemporary artists and current themes are combined with historical subjects.

    Gourmet tasting

Breda and catering are inextricably linked. You will notice it as soon as you walk down the street: on every corner you will find a terrace. Sit down at the harbour for beer and bitterballen, but even if you are looking for fine dining or a unique experience, like Holy Moly, Breda is the place to be.
