As laissez-faire market forces engulf the world and the Earth's future appears to be in jeopardy, the dream of living in harmony with nature and with each other has taken on an increasing urgency. A common human desire throughout history, the utopian community ideal that has gradually taken root in America. In Sweet Earth: Experimental Utopias in America, Joel Sternfeld looks at representative historical or current American utopias.

Alexandra Polina (Uzbekistan)
Steindamm. Nowhere else in Hamburg do you hear so many different languages. It is a street where everything coexists. Alexandra Polina captures the stories of the local communities with all their unique and personal styles

Lola Keyezua (Angola)
During the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional mourning rituals were challenged by the fact that family members were not allowed near the dead bodies of their loved ones. Keyezua documented the containers filled with the belongings of those who had died, symbolizing the cultural shift in mourning.

Quinten Vermeulen – ITP (Belgium)
From a passionate interest in how people make their environment a home, Quinten Vermeulen steps into the world of a number of special figures. With his photographic work, he explores the special dynamics that arise during the meeting between guest and host.
