Mengwen Cao (China)
Due to family and societal pressures, only about 5 percent of LGBTQ people in China are completely open about their identity. Drawing on their identity as a Chinese queer immigrant, Mengwen Cao uses care and tenderness to explore the intersecting space between race, gender and cultural identity. Their visual stories invite people to have conversations about difficult topics.

Zainab (Kashmir)
Kashmir, one of the most heavily militarized zones in the world. Zainab distills the effects of forced and oppressive isolation and makes a portrait of a house in Kashmir. These images depict the suffocation and anguish of everyday life in a region where both identity and existence are under constant threat.
