Stedelijk Museum Breda

Stedelijk Museum Breda is an ideal starting point for anyone looking to experience and discover the history and art of Breda and its surroundings. Two permanent exhibitions, ‘The Nassaus of Breda – Castle, city and countryside’ and ‘Ambition & Desire – Breda in the 19th century’, offer a fresh perspective on the history of the city and region. Thanks to the interactive Family Trails, these presentations are truly worth visiting for both young and old.

In addition, you can visit rotating exhibitions here that focus on contemporary artists and current themes combined with historical subjects. Check the current offerings at www.stedelijkmuseumbreda.nl.

History of the Boschstraten

The Boschstraat and Korte Boschstraat are historically streets with a rich history. And you can still see that today. Just look up as you walk through these streets. Centuries ago, this was the street that provided access to the city. You passed by a number of imposing buildings built by and for the affluent bourgeoisie and the middle class. Some of these national monuments are still standing. For example, the building that now houses the Stedelijk Museum Breda.
Previous names of the Boschstraat were: By the Hospice (1338), Outside the Hospice Gate (1359 to 1539), Hospice End (1526), Boscheind (1535) and Hospice Street.
