Wes brings a world tour of flavours

From cinema to trendy food hotspot in a monumental building. The doors of The Streetfood Club in Breda were opened in a big and festive way. You'll find yourself in a colourful interior full of plants with dishes and drinks from all corners of the world. And if you want to have dinner there? Make sure to reserve on time. The Streetfood Club is a success. Wes Schreutelkamp is one of the owners of The Streetfood Club. "The greatest compliment we can receive is people coming back."

    Iconic building

Many residents of Breda recognise the Grand Theatre, or have visited it regularly. Before The Streetfood Club established itself in the Grand Theatre on Van Coothplein, it used to be a bookshop and before that a cinema. "Many visitors of The Streetfood Club are incredibly curious about what we have done with the historic building," Wes explains. You will be amazed when you enter this old cinema. Spectacular chandeliers on the ceiling, a jungle of green plants, old windows from a church, impressive murals, enormous palm trees, and a lot of colour. "Everything we have done is extraordinary. In scent, colour, flavour and experience," says Wes.

In addition to a vibrant food and drink experience, you can also use The Streetfood Club for meetings. "We have a fantastic meeting room upstairs for workshops and meetings, the possibilities are endless."

    Influential experience

The Streetfood Club in Utrecht was a resounding success. Another city seemed like an obvious choice. The owners bought the property in Breda in 2019 with the intention of opening two more locations in the Netherlands within a year and a half. "Then the whole world fell apart," says Wes. The coronavirus pandemic threw quite a spanner in the works. "Still, we decided to start renovating in 2020, we had to do something," Wes says. The opening was delayed several times due to the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic and staff shortages. In July 2022, The Streetfood Club finally opened its doors. The result? "A spectacular experience. You don't just come here for the striking interior, but also for the feeling and atmosphere. And of course, we hope people come back for the quality," says Wes.

    Festival family

“We want to take our visitors on a journey around the world with tantalising dishes. Spicy cocktails, dishes served with dry ice from the Candy Shop, yakitori skewers on a mini barbecue, and guacamole that you have to grind yourself”, Wes explains. Currently, you can only come for dinner and cocktails, but soon this will be expanded to include coffee and lunch: “We didn't want to rush into offering everything right away. We value quality very highly, so we wanted to ensure that first.” In addition to quality, good staff is important for Wes: “We want to create a second home here for our staff. We're a really close-knit family and it's no wonder we're called the 'feast family'. We recently had a party with 300 staff from all our branches.”

    Next level

Wes, aged 34, was born into the hospitality industry. He started working in the kitchen at a young age and always wanted to become a chef. From washing dishes, he moved on to serving tables, did internships in hospitality in Australia and Curaçao, delved into wine, became a sommelier at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and then progressed to a management position. Ten years ago, he joined a group of hospitality entrepreneurs who are now his business partners. He is now one of the eight owners of The Streetfood Club. Is he proud? "There is always room for improvement," is his response. "But when I was at the opening party in July and there were a thousand people inside, I thought: this is really next level. We have created something here in Breda that is even grander than what Amsterdam has to offer. We are pleased that this unique concept is being embraced here."
